General Manager members are experienced managers employed in the sport and physical activity sector.
- You may be a for example; a centre manager, operations manager, business manager, contract manager, governing body manager, head of department, sport development manager or managing within the context of a community sports setting.
- You have demonstrated the ability to manage the processes through which organisations plan and organise quality sport and physical activity services.
- You have demonstrated the effective leadership of people.
- You have demonstrated the efficient deployment of financial and physical resources.
- You have effective leadership skills at the operational level, whilst being able to contribute to strategic planning and manage change.
Entry requirements
If you have 1 – 3 year’s experience in the role, you will need to provide:
- Your endorsed qualification which meets the General Manager professional standard
- If older than 5 years, evidence of CPD completed within the last 5 years is required.
- Your CV

If you have 3 + years of experience in the role, you will need to provide:
- Your CV covering responsibilities within your most recent role and any CPD undertaken.

- How do I identify if my qualification meets the professional standard for a management occupation?

If you have successfully met the professional standard following completion of your CIMSPA endorsed course and met the Management Professional Standard(s), your Professional Qualification certificate issued by CIMSPA and awarded by your institute will clearly confirm this.
If you are unsure whether your qualification meets the professional standards, please email a copy of it and your CV to info@cimspa.co.uk for review.
There are 2 application routes into Management membership as outlined within the Entry Requirements above to ensure those with and without an endorsed qualification can be rewarded and recognised.
Your CV is required for both routes to ensure that your experience to date can also be reviewed, considered and recognised.
