The micro-credential learning pathway

Benefits

Stackable learning

This unique offering means that individuals can complete a single module at a time, gaining a standalone and professionally recognised qualification for each. There is no requirement to complete the remaining modules and gain the full certificate.

Unlike traditional long-term degree programmes, these compact standalone qualifications allow learners to personalise their education journey. With no expiration date, it is possible to pick and choose when to complete each module at relevant points in the learner’s career. If they choose to, they can then stack them together to complete the full certificate.

Flexible learning

Cardiff Metropolitan University has created this sport management training in response to strong demand from the sector workforce. Both employers and individuals have found that across the sport and physical activity sector, there has been a lack of availability for management-specific training catering to working professionals. Traditional education options tend to be inaccessible to those already in employment, as work and other commitments leave little time for extended academic studies.

This training has been designed to empower professionals to expand their knowledge while continuing in their career. Although modules are completed over a set period, studying can be done at any time, and with the training delivered entirely online, learners can pick up their study wherever they need to.

Previous learning

In a further effort to offer the best value for money in the micro-credential education pathway, Cardiff Metropolitan University will take into account prior learning and professional experience when awarding module completion. On a practical level, this means that a manager with several years of work under their belt will be able to provide evidence of their knowledge, skills and any previous accreditation received to count towards up to 50% of the full qualification – three of the six modules in total.

Quality-assured learning

Whether you’re looking to start a career in the sport and physical activity sector, or progress within in, it is vital that the training and qualifications you choose are aligned with industry standards.

This course is endorsed and quality assured through CIMSPA’s rigorous quality assurance framework. This means they match the industry standards which have been developed in conjunction with employers across the sector.

Cost-effective learning

The all-new education pathway is designed with learners and employers in mind, allowing users to get the most out of the training opportunity at the best price-quality ratio. At £800 per module, the qualification is offered at a bite-sized cost. Even when pursuing all six modules of the certificate, the major up-front cost of traditional courses is avoided – it is simple to spread the payments by completing each module when it is financially viable to do so.

By ensuring that course participants are not duplicating learning, selecting only individual, targeted modules as and when they are needed, learners or employers can save money in comparison to completing a full degree course with potentially repeat sections. The associated costs showcase Cardiff Metropolitan University’s dedication to real-life application.

A pathway to professional recognition

Through the skills and knowledge acquired via this micro-credential pathway, individuals can build on and maintain their professional status, gaining 10 CIMSPA CPD points upon completion. Professional status is a key element of CIMSPA’s strategy, ensuring that the sector’s workforce becomes professionally recognised by both internal and external stakeholders.

Professional recognition demonstrates credibility to employers, colleagues and the public, providing great opportunities for career advancement and ensuring that those working in the sector can deliver their services effectively.

Choose the micro-credential pathway to learn

The first module to be taught is Principles of Management and Marketing in Sport and Physical Activity. This standalone micro-credential offers practical knowledge covering competencies such as management theories and leadership principles to consumer behaviour and strategic planning, providing a well-rounded understanding of the topics in the context of our sector.
