Why Leicester?

Leicester is the perfect place to hold our conference which explores the links between the sport and physical activity workforce and the positive power that it has to impact health and wellbeing, economic sustainability and social value.

Leicester is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK, and arguably the most diverse with 59% of the population being non-white and 41% being born outside the UK.

The City has a strong heritage of sport and this contributed to our sector being included as a priority industry for the areas local skills improvement plan. The Local Skills Plan for Sport and Physical Activity which was published in Spring 2024 is an excellent example of wide collaboration to implement a plan which addresses local needs.

In the top third of the most deprived areas of the country, with unemployment and health inequalities above the national average, the potential that our sector workforce has to change lives here is the perfect demonstration of how we can address some of the huge challenges facing communities across the nation.
