Overview and responsibilities

Yoga or Pilates Instructors are qualified professionals who have met rigorous standards to ensure that they safely and effectively deliver yoga or Pilates instruction to participants. Instructors are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of either yoga or Pilates, including anatomy, physiology and teaching methodologies.

The key responsibilities of a yoga or Pilates instructor are to design and deliver instruction, ensuring that their sessions are designed with the participant at the heart. They also provide support to students and offer modifications to increase inclusivity.

Education

To be professionally recognised as a CIMSPA Yoga Instructor Associate or CIMSPA Pilates Instructor Associate, we ask that you provide us with evidence of holding a relevant CIMSPA-endorsed qualification, degree or apprenticeship certificate issued by a CIMSPA Awarding Organisation Parter or Higher Education Partner or the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE).

If you have a qualification or degree that is not endorsed by CIMSPA or is over five years old, or if you have an international qualification, we still encourage you to apply for professional recognition. We may, however, need to ask you for additional evidence of other training you have undertaken as part of your application.

Progression

Once instructors have gained a qualification in instructing yoga or Pilates, they often seek out further qualifications to enable them to work with specialist populations, such as disabled people, ante/postnatal populations, children or older adults.
